Abandoned neglected blog of Mine

Another neglected blog! Not neglected by all the others I used to read and have been ended for one reason or another, but another blog of MINE that just sort of ended. This is the third one! But it did have a specific purpose; to write down information about what I could do to "prepare" for major changes in the society I've lived in all my life.

I have still been cooking a lot still. I’ve added a couple of sauces to my regular repertoire of meal fixing; an easy pasta sauce and a curry sauce. I still have to look at the recipes but I’m getting better at them I also make a dozen whole wheat muffins on days, usually once a week or so, when I ‘m out of bread and don’t want to go to the store again too soon.

One reason I wanted to post is that prices of several things have been going up in the past year or so. Gasoline is going up again. We’re up to $3.48 this week for regular. We stayed between $3.00 and $3.30 for most of the past few months, since last summer.

When I started this blog, a one pound bag of lentils at my local Safeway was .70-.85 cents. Now, it is $1.89! A bag of lentils! Even beans and pnutt butter have increased in the past year or so. The peanut crop last summer was bad due to a drought in the southeast US and price for pnut butter went up around 50% around last October and November.

A loaf of bread, depending on the bread and the store, stays about $3.50 to $4.00 a loaf.

The store that was in easy walking distance of my house has closed. They didn’t go out of business; the owner didn’t want to renew the lease. A food store called Sunflowers is supposed to go in there but it won’t be up and running for a year. This is just a little inconvenient for me, but some of my neighbors really depended on the accessibility of that store.

I’m in my third year—2010, 2011 and now 2012—of having a CSA share. Our CSA can run all year round in Phoenix.

I’ve found that 3 neighbors and I are giving each other food. It’s just food that’s extra to the individual family and so they or I pass them on to someone in our small complex. It wasn’t intentional, it just developed! It started with me giving mustard greens to one neighbor and she gave me citrus and potatoes. She seems to be doing okay but I do have the feeling that one of these households could use some extra food. The person I give greens to is a pretty good cook and very often gives me part of a dish she has cooked CSA veggies with. It’s pretty good stuff. )

Feb 26

where I used to work is going to go away due to the AZ state budget issues! :( :( :0 Eek! This makes the economic stuff really closer than it was. There's a retirement party for one of the staff there that I'm going to today. I expect it may feel like a wake as well as a party! :/

Starting an online class next week I'm really looking forward to. It centers on how to adapt yourself and place to the coming changes, not all good, that could be/probably will be coming in the next few years. I have some ideas from previous readings at various blogs and books but the people who take the class and teachers will have some, too and I hope this will all help me with my ideas. It's things that could be done and that helps with anxiety and fears.

Otherwise, not much new here. Weather is warming up and is lovely. I smell citrus blossoms out there beginning to come out ... : )

Workshop at yoga studio this saturday morning, too.

end of estate papers by May 30th, I have assets to collect before then though.

Postponing major decisions in life until after estate is settled and this class is done.

feeling pretty good today,
shamba

DJA is hanging around in the 7,100-7300 range the past week or so....

Windy, dusty Sunday Afternoon in Phoenix in April

I seem to be in the mood to write here today. I feel more cheerful as I write from my earliest post this morning.

The past two days have been very bad for allergies in Phoenix--windy, dusty, pollen in the air. Most desert plants and flowers that live here in the spring have bloomed but many palo verdes are still filling out with their beautiful yellow blooms. Palo Verdes trees are gorgeous with the green trunk and branches and yellow flowers against the blue sky. Lovely! And the saguaro blossoms are out now. they are about the last thing to bloom before the real heat sets in and that will be after Memorial day. It is in the mid-90s today. Please observe the photo above; I'll have to practice getting the photos right where I want them in the entry.

I have links added here to my different photo pages. I paid for flicker.com last year but I won't renew it come this fall. I do NOT want to give up my webspace yet and also my ISP connections. maybe if the world gets small enought I'll have to but I can't deal with that idea yet.

I haven't done anything about adding some new family photos and some La Jolla photos. I'm still figuring out how to get my more manageable ways of handling the digital photos, Photos in Windows Photo Gallery and my transferred photo data from my earlier computer; all my old photos came through okay; that was not a problem.
I want to add the basic links for peak everything--cause that's what it is these day, Peak Everything!--here, too. I want this to tie all my web creations and the VIP links together. I could add links and links up the wazoo but that will defeat the whole purpose if I do that.
Om shanti, shanti, shanti. Shanti means peace. I don't seem to have near enough of that the past few weeks so I need to give it to myself and all sentient beings out there.
Namaste,
shamba
